After the video of brutalizing two women by a group of unknown persons went viral, Loitongbam Tilotama, Vice-President, on behalf of the Congress, strongly condemned the brutal act committed on the two ladies and sought capital punishment of the accused. The party also condemned PM Narendra Modi for taking 78 days to break his silence on the ongoing conflict in the state. Had the BJP government acted in time, Manipur wouldn’t have had to endure this shame in front of not just the states of India but the countries in the world.
She furthered that the entire thing sounds more like a conspiracy of the ruling party. For the particular crime, an FIR was lodged at the concerned PS on 18th May, yet no action nor such video spills out during this long duration. However, it went viral a day or two ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament.
Many such videos could be hidden on both sides of the communities since many such videos were heard circulating during the early days of the conflict. The system of dilly-dallying of the BJP-led government in Manipur and at the centre has escalated the conflict each passing day, the VP added.
The vice president asked why and how does it take so long for the ruling party at both the centre and Manipur to put the conflict under control. However, she said that Congress never accepts such a heinous crime against women and seeks the most extreme form of punishment for the culprits.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police on Thursday arrested one accused, Huirem Herodas Singh (32 years), son of (L) H. Rajen Singh of Pechi Awang Lekai, in connection to brutal acts on two women.
The state Police on Wednesday registered a case of abduction, gang-rape, murder, etc. at Nongpok Sekmai Police Station, Thoubal District in connection to the viral video of two women paraded naked by unknown armed miscreants on 4th May 2023.
