Manipur State Co-operative Bank vandalised in Kangpokpi; Attempted to loot cash

Unknown miscreants vandalised the Manipur State Co-operative Bank, Kangpokpi Branch located at I.T. Road, Ward no.17, Kangpokpi district on Wednesday.

It is reported that six computer sets, one canon printer and CCTV Camera hard drive were stolen from the bank premises. “Cash vault has also been broken, but no cash has been looted as the Branch has already taken out all the cash vault as well as from the ATM in the middle week of May as advised by the Head Office”, the Deputy Manager of the Bank said in a complaint letter to the district police station.

Further, it said the Bank was closed from May 04 till July 07 in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the state.

On July 10, around 5 Crores footed from Axis Bank In Churachandpur.  The unfortunate incident came to light on Monday, the 10th July 2023 when the Manager of the Branch, Paokhankhual Lethil went to the Bank at 1.30 pm. He found the strong Room to have been broken.

According to the Manager, the Branch has about Rs 4/5 crores in cash and gold but all went missing the bank was opened today after it has been shut for so long since 4th May 2023.

Earlier also, the state-run Manipur State Co-operative Bank was also looted on 16th May at New Lamka, Churachandpur.

As per report, an unruly mob numbering about 300/400 armed with deadly weapons attacked the bank by breaking the lock of the shutter and ransacked the banks property and looted the following items () 6 nos. of computer, (ii) 5 nos. of CPU, (iii)5 nos. of CCTV cameras, (iv)5 nos. of rotating chair, (v) 2 nos. of cash counting machine, (vi) 3 nos. of big battery, (vii) 2 nos. of gas cylinder, (vii) one inverter, (ix) one Single Barrel License Gun and (x) Rs 11,77,578 hard cash.

An FIR No. 96(5)2023 u/s 143/148/427/395/456/34 IPC has been registered at the Churachandpur Police Station in the connection.
