Joint Youth Development Committee (JYDC) Mayang Imphal Meitei Pangal President Chesam Achouba  draw the attention of CM N. Biren and concern authorities to put immediate stop on illegal encroachment and fishing using illegal means around the premises of Loktak lake specially at Komlakhong Chingthi to Khaji Sumbantaobi Kajin at Mayang Imphal bank of Loktak lake where the activities is done at massive scale.

Chesam Achouba expressed the above statement on an inspection conducted at Loktak lake over illegal encroachment from Heibongyangbi Leirak Manung of Imphal West District by JYDC with media.

He said that JYDC along with the media conducted the inspection on getting information of illegal activities at the premises of the lake. He continued that under the leadership of CM N. Biren, conservation activities are being taken up at the lake to conserve it's ecology and environment, phumdis (Floating vegetation) are being cleared and many restrictions and prohibition are being implemented, illegal houses constructed over phumdis were cleared and fishing using electric and other environmental hazardous means were also prohibited, but unfortunately despite restrictions and prohibitions such activities are still carried out at the Khaji Sumbantaobi Kajin. He persuaded to do fishing and gather vegetables legally but not to use illegal means and pollute the lake and it's ecology.

He said that the incumbent government as part of its conservation activities through Loktak Development Authority, LDA on July 18 of 2022 issued notice under Loktak Lake Protection Act to removed illegal houses and prohibited fishing using illegal means and evicted several houses complying to the notice. Compensations were also given to shift their houses, but after receiving compensation illegal encroachment and illegal fishing is being carried out at Mayang Imphal area of the lake. He appealed to stop sich activities being carried out at Khaji Sumbantaobi Kajin and join hand in Loktak lake conservation activities. Je said that fishing using electric shock is very harmful to fish, many experts said several times that electric shock affected hatching of fish eggs thereby reducing fish population and productivity. He warned that if the activities doesn't stop immediately then JYDC along with the people will resort to protest to conserve the environment of Loktak lake. Chesam Achouba later seeks intervention of concern departments on the matter.
