Various clubs, Organizations, and Meira Paibis jointly staged, on Sunday, a Sit-in protest demanding the inclusion of the Meeteis /Meiteis in ST List in the vicinity of EMA Ngaikhongngakpi Temple in Wangoo Nongyaikhong.

Amidst the fear of losing our identity, Laishram Romesh Meetei - Convenor-Co - Ordinating Body of Schedule Tribe Demand Committee, said during the protest that if the Indian Constitution refuses to recognize the Meiteis as the indigenous people of Manipur, the ethnic community will eventually disappear from the soil of the state in the near future.

"If we want to save the indigenous community and continue to live here on the soil of Mother Manipur, we need to include our indigenous people in ST List as Meetei/Meitei in the constitution," said the convenor.

The convenor also appealed to every community and section in both the hills and the valley to work in unison and demand the central government for recognition and therein save the state.

He furthered that when we lose our identity, we shall have no land for our shelter in a few years. However, the constitution has provided many rights to the indigenous people, he appealed to the government to ensure the inclusion of the indigenous people in the ST list and ensure the safeguard of the natives by sending recommendations to the Central government.

The Convenor also made an appeal to all the communities and sections in both the hills and the valley to stay integrated as a family.
