Khoirom MIE: Hullabaloo Between Locals, Pollution Control Board, and Forest Officials When Officials Tried to Check Ambient Air Quality and Noise

Thoubal, September 15 - Regarding the concern of the affected nearby people by Khoirom MIE situated at Yairipok Khoirom Mathak Leikai, Manipur Pollution Control Board and Thoubal Forest Division officials went to check "Ambient Air Quality Monitoring" and "Ambient Noise Monitoring" of Khoirom MIE yesterday but the locals opposed the actions and a ruckus occurred between the officials and the local. The locals did not let the test be conducted and expressed that there is no need to monitor air quality or noise, Khoirom MIE should be permanently shifted.
The locals continued that JAC Against the Establishing of the Khoirom MIE in Residential Area along with the affected people on 4th of September protested and demanded the permanent shifting or permanent banning of the Khoirom MIE but unfortunately, some hired local club and people held a meeting at Khoirom Mathak Leikai Community Hall on 12 of September and opposed their demands of banning or shifting of MIE. The locals said that if they don't want to disrupt the developmental process in Khoirom then let the MIE set up near their premises or locality.
On this matter DFO Thoubal Th. Lokendro expressed to the media that Khoirom MIE was set up in 2018 and on the complaint filed on 8 of this month to the department by Lourembam Tomba a JAC member, the department banned the operation of MIE. He continued that some want to shift the MIE and some didn't but regarding the concern of affected people on health department sent a letter to the Director, of Manipur Pollution Control Board and when they went to measure the degree of air quality and noise, locals opposed their actions, he added that they will not carry out this work until further decision.
