Khangabok Development and Students Union (KDASU), and two other organizations - Youth Action Committee on Protection of Indigenous people (YACPIP), and Rapid Action Committee (RAC) of Khangabok jointly staged a sit-in protest on Monday at Khangabok Awang New Keithel in Thoubal district against the rising incidents of killing innocent civilians by people with license gun.
Moirangthem Bidyasagar, a member of KDASU stated during the protest that the three organizations strongly condemned the rising cases of killing in licensed gun firing incidents. They suggested that the government must cross-check whether the person applying for a licensed gun is mentally fit to possess a gun. The government must take up minute verification before issuing guns to individuals. The same must also be taken up during re-verification.
The participants (at the sit-in protest) held placards and shouted to stop creating terror and awe in the minds of the common people through gun firing. They also demanded the authorities concerned to re-verify the mental health of the licensed gun owners and identify those individuals with illegal guns.
