A woman Successfully Delivered a Baby at Relief Camp
Keirak, June 02-

Women are more vulnerable than men in the same natural disaster setting. Preexisting gender inequality, socio-cultural community dynamics and poverty puts women at significant mortality risk. Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable because of their limited access to prenatal and obstetric care during any disaster or humanitarian emergency.

Following the ethnic clash between two communities in Manipur escalating on the 3rd of May, there were reports of arsons and gun firing, and several houses were also burnt down to ashes in the Sugnu area of Kakching District from the 28th of May by suspected Kuki militants, affected violence survivors were evacuated to safer places and several relief camps were opened. A pregnant woman from Khongyam staying at a relief camp opened at Sanatombi High School, Keirak successfully delivered a baby at CHC Kakching at around 3:15 pm yesterday.

The pregnant woman that successfully delivered a baby was Sapam Renu (32) W/O Sapam Priyomacha of Khongyam Awang Leikai. Volunteers of the relief camp contacted with ASHA of Keirak regarding the condition of the pregnant run and ASHA Workers have been taking keen care of her. CHO of PHC Keirak Ningombam Sarda along with Keirak ASHA workers Sh. Uma, S. Ibeyaima, N. Omina, and N. Sandhyarani hospitalized the pregnant run at CHC Kakching, necessary tests and diagnosis were availed to her free of cost by Friendship Diagnostic and Pratima Diagnostic of Kakching Keithel.
