Athletes to Compete in 18 Discipline in NE Olympic Games

Thoubal, August 12 - 2nd ''North East Olympic Games'' will be held from October 30 to November 6 in Shillong, Meghalaya. In this game, the coordination meeting of the North East Olympic Organisation Committee and North East Olympic Association resolved to increase the number of disciplines to 18.

The coordination meeting was held on Wednesday 10 August at the Main Secretariat of Shillong and was attended by Olympic Associations of 8 Seven Sisters state. North East Olympic Association and Manipur Olympic Association President MLA Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam speaking about the resolutions of the meeting said that the NE Olympic Games will be a very significant game this year because it coincides with the 50 years of statehood that is the Golden Jubilee of Meghalaya statehood and it will be a part of Golden Jubilee celebration in the state. He continued that besides giving several advantages to the athletes the game will enhance the sense of unity and understanding among the youth of Northeastern states.

He said that in these games athletes will compete in 18 events which are archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, judo, karate, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, wushu, cycling, golf, weightlifting, and wrestling.
MLA Radheshyam continued that top athletes of the North East who bagged medals in the recently held Tokyo Olympic and Commonwealth Games will be sent an invitation to participate as special invitees.

Meghalaya State Olympic Association Working President and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister of Meghalaya Banteidor Lyngdoh who presided over the coordination meeting expressed that 18 events are selected depending on the infrastructure and the advice of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association.
The meeting was also attended by Manipur Olympic Association Executive Member N. Ibungochoubi.
