Alleged Kuki Militants fired upon the villagers of Kanto Sabal Leikai, Sekmai Constituency, around 11.30 on Sunday night. The militants also arsoned five houses at Leimakhong Chingmang including a house belonging to a Naga family.
According to the villagers, the Kuki militants began firing upon the villagers of Kanto Sabal around 11.30 and continued till 3:00 am on Monday. The State Combined Forces also cross fired to protect the villagers. Luckily, no casualties has been reported exept the houses being gutted down.
The locals also reported that the arsoning of the houses and the firing took place in front of the Gurkha Regiment being deployed at Leimakhong Chingmang to control any such violent action. However, instead of controlling the Kuki militants, the personnels of Gurkha regiments marched towards Sabal Leikai and let loosed the Kuki Militants in executing their mission.
This is the third time the Kuki militants are attacking Meitei Villages. The first attack took place on the 3rd of May, the Second on the 9th of May and the third one took place on Sunday. So far 51 houses have been gutted down, and several locals sustained injuries, reported the locals.
