COCOMI has appealed to the state government to frame policies to stop buying and selling of lands taking advantage of the ongoing ethnic conflict in the state.
Speaking to the media on Monday at COCOMI’s Office in Imphal, Somarendro, the media-Co-Ordinator, said that it is very disappointing to hear that some persons are engaging in buying and selling of crisis hit-land. At this, he appealed to the government and the concerned department to frame policies to put a check and control the vested interests of some profiteers taking advantage of the present conflict.
The media-Co-Ordinator further appealed to the Peace Committee headed by the Governor constituted under the Home Ministry to send a recommendation first to the center to stop the Kuki Terrorists from shooting toward the Meitei Civilians and Villages. The Committee should take it as their top priority or else no committee nor any agency can bring back peace and harmony in the state.
COCOMI also suggested to the Peace Committee the “Implementation of NRC in the state” demanded jointly by the Committee and UNC as a long-term plan to sustain peace and harmony in the state.
In response to what is COCOMI’s stand on the boycott of the Peace Committee headed by the Governor by KUKI members in the Committee, the media Co-ordinator said that COCOMI has been made part of the Peace Committee without their knowledge. When proposed to COCOMI’s Co-ordinator to be a part of the Peace Committee, the co-ordinator declined to be a member considering the failure of the state and the central government to control the present conflict and because the demands of the various sections of society and CSOs have not been heard and converted into actions.
