Joint team destroyed at least 4 Hectares of Poppy field in Noney
A joint team of Manipur Police led by Addl SP Noney Sangboi Gangte, OC Nungba PS, Nilamani Singh, RO Nungba Forest Oinam Pamheiba, OC 39 Assam Rifles Nungba Outpost Shimray, and Rongmei Naga Students' Organization Manipur (RNSOM) President Daichui, destroyed at least 4 Hectares of Poppy Plantation field on Monday at T Khongmol Kuki Village, under Nungba Sub Division, Noney District.
Nilamani Singh, OC of Nungba Police Station said, "we had destroyed at least 4 Hectares of Poppy Plantations at T Khongmol, Longpi Circle under Nungba PS in collaboration with different Govt. agencies including RNSOM." They initiated legal action against the chairman of T Khongmol and the cultivator respectively while both are out of the station at the time of operation. Both of them will be convicted according to the law of the land. It is indeed surprising to see such massive plantations despite several requests, appeals, and warnings from the Govt said OC. Search and survey drive of Poppy plantations will continue & destroy all if found in the coming days OC maintained.
RNSOM President Mr. Daichui maintains that While the Chief Minister of Manipur had declared war on drugs and appealed to make drugs free state, it is very surprising & unexpected to see such huge plantations going on in Nungba Sub Division. Mr. Daichui said, "Rongmei never practice such poppy or any kind of drugs related plantations, & had declared Poppy free in all Rongmei territories last year 2022 supporting the Govt initiatives, we will continue work with Govt agencies to completely eradicate this menage at the best interest of the peoples. We will continue to work together with the Govt to make Tamenglong and Noney Districts Poppy Free Districts".
The Students body said that a continuous survey will be conducted in both these two districts and cautioned anybody involved to surrender/quit before they are caught and take legal action.
The organization will never hesitate to protect and safeguard future generations and always stood alongside the Government to help in ending the illegal drug business added Mr. Daichui.
As per the villagers, the Chairman of T Khongmol lives in Churachandpur while the Poppy cultivators reside in T Khongmol.
