As part of the continuous protest against the failure of the government to control the escalating ethnic conflict in the state, the mothers of Khwairamband Keithel formed a human chain on Monday at Thangal Lane, Imphal, and jointly resolved to continue their protest in New Delhi itself and submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister.
During the procession, the mothers demanded that there shall not be any form of separate administration in the state. They also demanded the withdrawal of SoO with the Kuki Militants and immediate implementation of NRC in the state.
Earlier on the 8th of June, the mothers resolved to submit a memorandum demanding “No separate administration of any kind to exist in the state”, ” Arrest and punish the Kuki Militants under the framework of the constitution for breaking SoO ground rules”, “Adequate Supply of arms and ammunition to the state forces, “Permanent Removal of Assam Rifles from the State”, and various others.
However, as the state seemed to pay no heed to their ultimatum, they decided to stage a protest in India’s capital – New Delhi and submit their memorandum to the Prime Minister.
Further, in the absence of any positive response from the side of the government, the mothers questioned why, instead of finding a solution to end the ongoing ethnic conflict, the Union Government called upon the Kuki MLAs and the Naga MLAs, and why not the Meitei MLAs and the Muslim MLAs. Is there any hidden agenda on the side of the Union government against Manipur? Continued the mothers.
And as the union and the state governments remain silent spectators to the cries, appeals, and demands from various sections in the state, the mothers of Khwairamband Keithel and representatives of other markets in the valley decided to stage their protest directly in New Delhi, said members of the Joint Co-Ordinating Committee for Peace.
