Manipur Crisis: 3,734 FIRs registered, 84 coys of CAPF deployed, Situation 'Returning to Normal'
After the Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited conflict-hit Manipur for a four-day visit in an attempt to restore peace and announced a judicial probe into the clashes that erupted between the Kuki and Meitei communities leading to widespread violence.
A press release stated that the situation is comparatively back to normal in most districts.
"Curfew is relaxed for 12 (twelve) hrs (5.00 am to 05.00 pm) in Imphal West, Imphal East, and Bishnupur; 8 (eight) hrs (8.00 am to 4.00 pm) in Jiribam; 7 (seven) hrs (5.00 am to 12.00 pm) in Thoubal & Kakching; 10 hrs (5.00 am to 3.00 pm) in Churachandpur and Chandel; 8 (eight) hrs (6.00 am to 2.00 pm) in Tengnoupal; 11 (eleven) hrs (6.00 am to 5.00 pm) in Kangpokpi; 12 (twelve) hrs (6.00 am to 6.00 pm) in Pherzawl. There is no curfew in Tamenglong, Noney, Senapati, Ukhrul and Kamjong."
Overall FIR registered so far in the state is reportedly 3,734 FIRs of which (IW-1257, IE-243, BPR-844, KCG-39, TBL-346, JBM-02, CCP -56, TPL-11, KPI-932, PZL -01, TML-02, SPT-1) have been registered and 65 persons have been arrested in connection with the violence.
"The number of deaths is 98 and the number of injured reported is 310. The number of arson cases is 4,014."
In an attempt to curb any more violence incidents in the state, more army/AR/CAPF/Local Police are deployed in vulnerable places. Till now 84 coys of CAPF are deployed. More companies are being deployed soon said a release.
Flag marches and area domination exercises are carried out widely, as per a press release by the state government.
"Search operations will be conducted today to recover snatched arms and ammunition. An appeal is made to all concerned to surrender the snatched arms and ammunition. Stringent legal action will be taken against anyone if caught with snatched arms and ammunition."
The press release also further that Meetings with Village chiefs and CSOs are held to resolve conflict and to bring peace among different communities.
"37,450 persons (returnees) are in 272 relief camps including local/village/community Halls."
District-wise break up: 1. Imphal West (10 camps-807 persons), 2. Imphal East (39 camps – 7,183 persons), 3. Thoubal (12 camps – 1,408 persons), 4. Bishnupur (58 camps – 8,031 persons), 5. Churachandpur (63 camps -8,929 persons), 6. Tengnoupal (9 camps – 884 persons), 7. Kakching (14 camps – 992 persons), 8. Jiribam (3 camps – 115 persons), 9. Kangpokpi (54 camps- 8,000 persons) 10. Ukhrul (1 camp – 35 persons), 11. Senapati (2 camp - 552 persons), 12. Kamjong (5 camps – 364 persons). 13. Chandel (2 camps – 150 persons).
The press release also stated that the movement of essential items along NH-37 is ensured.
"234 vehicles (Empty truck – 121, Empty oil tanker – 57, Empty LPG bullet – 49, Cruiser – 2, Sumo – 3, Bolero – 1 and Tata DI - 1) have left Imphal for Jiribam. 210 loaded vehicles (LPG-41, Petrol-8, Mix-8, Cement-68, loaded truck-83, Medicine-1 & FCI-1) are stationed at Noney."
"213 vehicles (LPG020, Petrol-26, Diesel-4, FCI-1. Medicine-2, Cement-64, and Transport-96) have left Jiribam for Imphal. 22 vehicles (Oil tanker-07 and Transport-15) and 10 loaded vehicles are stranded at Senapati and Mao-PS."
Sporadic incidents of firing or torching of houses by miscreants are becoming rare now as different security agencies make coordinated efforts, said the release.
