Hailing the eviction works of illegal encroachment along the river bank from Thoubal Khekman to Irong Chesaba to conserve rivers and the environment from encroachment and pollution, CPI Thoubal Local Council has urged the state and the concerned department to completely evict all sorts of illegal structures and other encroachments along the river banks.
In the press release dated 31st January, E. Jiten, Secretary of the Local Council, also raised the issue of impotable water of Thoubal river due to heavy mud content. "The river water is polluted by the residents inhabited on the upper part of Thoubal River as they keep engaging in sand mining. And it has adversely affected the river water, making it muddy and unfit for domestic chores', said the Secretary.
With this into consideration, the Local Council also draws the attention of authorities to take immediate measures to meet the people's demands at the earliest.
