Sighted 5 Kharsa (Hog Deer), Axis Porcinus at Jutu Loukol
Ishok, March 15- A two-day survey to ensure the presence of Sangai within the Kharsa population at Jutu Loukol and its surrounding premises was conducted and concluded today. Jutu Loukol is on the northern bank of Loktak lake and is a part of Nambol AC, Bishnupur District.

The survey was conducted jointly by Divisional Forest Office Bishnupur, Ishok Village Development Committee, and Green Universal Foundation and was led by Range Forest Officer Sukham Ratankumar, President of Green Universal Foundation and Secretary of Indian Red Cross Society Bishnupur District Branch Dr. Huidrom Romen and Secretary of Ishok Village Development Committee Huidrom Nipamacha accompanied by staffs of DFO Bishnupur.

Preparing from the 4:30 am dawn aerial survey was conducted using 2 drones, at the aerial survey a small and fully grown Kharsa (Axis porcinus) was sighted and at the Western side of Jutu Loukol Huidrom Nipamacha visually sighted a female and two male Kharsa.

Further, during the aerial survey two Kharsa exist from nearby bushes and stared at the drone, numerous footprints were sighted and the sound of flying drones might frighten the animal from coming out or maybe grazing in other areas.

RFO Sukham Ratankumar also taught the villagers how to distinguish a Kharsa and a Sangai from their antlers (horns).
Ratankumar continued that all the animals sighted during the survey at Jutu Loukol are documented as Kharsa from their antlers and the reports of numerous Kharsa population at Jutu Loukol by the villagers are also true and persuaded the villagers to treat and care for them well as done before. He said that further surveys will be conducted to check whether there is Sangai or not, and if found in this area special attention will be given to this area.
