Bailey Bridge over Irang River washed away; one died in Senapati Highway accident
Imphal-Jiribam sector of National Highway 37, which is deemed Manipur’s second supply route, has been cut off after a Bailey bridge over Irang River collapsed as torrential rain soaked away its foundation.
The government of Manipur notify that all the vehicles are prohibited from plying through the National Highway-37 across the Khongsang to Noney Stretch, while the alternate route via Khoupum to Rengpang may be used and heavy vehicles are refrained from doing so due to rugged, narrow terrain.
The Noney police were instructed to check and ensure all vehicles public and private to make them aware of the situation.
Reportedly the state received around 34.59mm of rainfall on average till 6 pm on Thursday, Tamenglong district received around 100.2 mm of rainfall while Senapati district received 96.6mm. Kangpokpi district, which is the birthplace of the Imphal river, also received a rainfall of 43.8mm.
In another instance, one was killed in a Highway Accident- the truck that he was driving fell into the river of Senapati district.
Torrential rain in the last few days led to flash floods in many parts of Manipur affecting many areas in the hills area and the state capital.
