Meira Paibis of Langathel
A group of villagers in Langathel detained six persons and five eco vans for their alleged involvement in transporting various items via a secret route to Moreh Region on Thursday.
The detainees were identified as E. Karingson of Chandel Koijam Village, DP Koshil Maring of Chandel Tuishimi Village, Vijay Thakur of Bihar, Md. Abdul Rahaman of Moreh Ward no. 5, Bablu Kumar Sharma, and, Md. Najir Ahmed of Sora Mamang Leikai.
The locals dragged them to Langathel Kangjeibung Lampak along with the seized items, later they were released with a warning to never repeat such acts. However, the seized items will be distributed to nearby relief camps.
Secretary of KALL- Langathel Lenil Puyam expressed that the items were being stealthily via Langthabal- Koijam Inter Village Road instead of the broad and well-paved NH -102. However, the locals of Langathel got aware of the transportation and keep a strict vigil in the said area. The locals frisked the vehicles around 5:00 am in the early morning at Hangoipat Chingjin, and later found that the items were meant for Moreh. At this, the union of 7 clubs of Langathel owned the items and collectively decided to hand the seized items over to Relief camps opened in the area.
Sagolsem Mandeswori, a Meira Paibi of the area, expressed that amidst this tumultuous and chaotic scenario following the crisis beginning on the 3rd of May, some individuals took advantage of the present situation and used it as a way to earn personal profit. Describing the incident as a misfortune, she asked why are they trying to transport the items via such a route. For today, she continued, they are releasing the drivers with a warning. In case, they repeat the act, they will be held responsible for any unwanted happening.
