Crossfire Continues in Manipur: Eight Killed, Four Injured in Sangaithel

Eight Kuki militants were killed and four others sustained bullet injuries in a fierce gunfight between the Kuki militants and Village Volunteer forces on the outskirts of Sangaithel, Imphal West.

Sources said the deceased Kuki militants consisted of five suspected People’s Democratic Forces (PDF) and three other local Kuki militants. And the injured ones include two Kuki militants and two VVF personnel. It is also reported that the suspected Lung-gee-wearing (Lung-gee - a wrapper male Burmese wears) PDF Cadres were dragged upon by the Kuki militants as they fled away. And of the other three deceased kuki militants, one is a woman and reported to be a sniper shooter.

The sniper woman has been identified as Pi Domkhohoi. The injured Kuki militants have also been identified as Pa Thongneh and Pa Thangkhojang. However, the injured VVF personnel have not been confirmed.

The heavy cross-firing began around 4.20 am at Khoken Kuki-Zo village, near Sangaithel village which lies between Kangpokpi and Imphal West district. The two sides ceased firing this afternoon only when the central forces intervened.
