Forest Range Conducts Massive Drive to Save Wildlife in Kakching

By Senior reporter HY News:

In connection to celebrating Childrens’ Day, the Forest Range Kakching and other officials under it, conducted a massive drive to collect hunting nets and other tools and implements of poaching local and migratory birds in the wetlands of major lakes like Khoidumpat, Pumlenpat, Moirangkompat, and Leingangpat today.
Speaking to media, N. Munal Meitei, Range Forest Officer, Kakching said, “As winter approaches, the migratory birds have started to arrive here. The officials have been conducting drives to save wildlife from 1st November in the major wetlands of Kakching”. He also expressed his joy that no trapping nets nor any other poaching tools were found in Pumlenpat, the 2nd largest lake in the state, and other important regions.
Taking it as a matter of pride and achievement for the district, the officer announced to pay Rupees 10,000/- to the individual who could inform the news of trapping and poaching of birds and other wildlife.

Tangjeng Lake, an important lake in the south of the state, was once a major habitat of migratory birds. People could see large flocks of birds every year. But unfortunately, not a single Brahminy duck (Nganu Thangong) could be seen this year, said the officer.
While explaining the anthropogenic pressure, the officer said, “It is humans and its activities that have changed the natural environment of the lake.” He, then, appealed to the people in and around the lake to jointly revive and save the Tangjeng Lake. He also urged the people to consider the wildlife as the most precious gift of Nature and protect them.
