Kukis are a highly warmongering community. They are also hill people like the Nagas but they are uniquely different, said BS Rynson, the Chief of Wangkheirak Village.
Speaking further on Friday at a meeting organized by KOCHTAL at Chajingkhunou Community hall, the Chief said the state knows how and why the present conflict between the Kukis and the Meiteis came into being and the state must find a solution to end the conflict at the earliest.
The Chief furthered that the Kukis had a long war with the Nagas for 3 years. They also waged war with the Paites in Churachandpur, and they are in war with the Meiteis presently.
Supplementing further to what the Wangkheirak Village Chief, Ringsen Lamkang, the chief of Nungkangching Village, said that the Meiteis are rendering day and night voluntarily services to check and foil the entry of any Kuki militant to their respective areas and cause any further killing and arson. He also said that though Kukis are hill people like them, they are different philosophy and love war.
Chanthoisana, General Secretary - Lamjingba Lup, said that both the hill and the valley people had been living peacefully for years after they formed a Peace Committee for Sugnu area. However, everything broke as the heavily armed Kuki militants attacked the Meiteis in the region with guns. They also gutted numerous Meitei houses. At this massive torture, the Meiteis formed volunteer forces, picked up licensed guns, and fought back against the Kuki militants.
During the meeting organized by KOCHTAL, the neighbouring Nagas and the Meiteis jointly decided to stay co-ordinated and face jointly any untoward incident the Kukis would impose. The two communities also agreed upon to inform any unlikely incident or disturbances to each other in case any other group, the Kukis in particular, hinder in their activities.
Kh. Rockyngam Anal, Chairman - Western Valley Chief Association graced the meeting as the Chief Guest. While Ningthoujam Indibala Devi, Pradhan - Pangantabi Gram Panchayat attended the meeting as the President. Shangreipung village Chief - S. Anthony, Tonsen Tampak Chief - Serto Koko Kom, Tonsen Khullen Chief - K. Rokhen Kom, Nongkangching Chief - Ringsen, Berukhudam Chief - PS. Shelling Anal, Wangkheirak Chief - BS. Rynson, Mahou Tera Chief - Mr. Asem, Kha Maikei Kanba Lup Secretary - Kh. Ratan, Lamjingba Lup General Secretary - Aheibam Chanthoisana, KOCHTAL President - H. Debel Singh, Secretary - Seram Santa Singh attended the meeting as the guests of honour.
The meeting was called upon to discuss about carrying agricultural works in Sugnu area consisting of Pangantabi, Tangjeng Khunou, Korshantabi, Chajingkhunou, Wapokpi and Sugnu - measuring around 500 acres.
