The mothers of Khwairamband Keithel took a major decision to shut down the market and surrounding Markets for three days from Tuesday, the 6th of June to Thursday, the 8th of June 2023.

The mothers said the move has been taken as a mark of protest against the massacre of Metei civilians and arson of thousands of Meitei houses and religious structures.

They also said they had lost faith in Assam Rifles as they have been, on many occasions, caught red-handed while giving support to the Kuki Militants. They are biased and have been found targeting Meitei civilians. Many houses and temples have been set to fire in front of them, alleged the mothers.

Further, the mothers said they are ready to wage the Third Nupi Lan this time against the Kuki militants.

Khwairamband Keithel, Paona Bazar, Thangal Bazar, shops along Nagamapal, and others will remain closed during the said period.

During the three days visit of Shah to the state, the Union Home Minister aimed at resolving the recent clashes in Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday announced to set up a judicial probe led by a retired Chief Justice of a High Court. Shah announced this during a Press conference, stressing the imperative need for dialogue as the sole solution to the ongoing crisis.

Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday announced a judicial probe into the ethnic violence that has rocked Manipur for the past month, the creation of a unified command for overseeing the security in the state, a CBI inquiry into the six specific incidents of violence, and a peace committee under the governor for holding reconciliation talks between the warring Meitei and Kuki communities.

Shah’s statements coincided with a key change at the helm of Manipur police. Rajiv Singh, the Tripura cadre IPS officer whose deputation to the Manipur cadre was approved earlier this week, has stepped in as the new DGP of Manipur, replacing P Doungel who has been shifted out as OSD (home). Singh was serving as inspector general in the CRPF prior to this and reached Imphal only on Wednesday.

On the contrary, Manipur is witnessing several protests and gun firing at the peripherals areas of the state. Sugnu is one of the most violence-hit areas with fresh reports of arsons of more than 100 houses including MLAs house at Serou.
