As an engagement of youth and awareness program on India’s G20 Presidency, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Thoubal, NSS Units of Kakching Khunou College (KKC), and I.Q.A.C. Cell KKC jointly organized Neighbourhood Youth Parliament at district level for Kakching District Manipur on 13th February 2023 at Sivananda Memorial Hall, Kakching Khunou College.
The Youth Parliament was organized on the G20 theme of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” focussing on the G20 & Y20 summit, Mission Life, International Year of Millets, and Catch the Rain Campaign.
Kh. Radhamani Devi, Ex-Councillor Kakching Khunou Municipal Council, Dr. P. Memcha Devi, Principal Kakching Khunou College, and Michael Thangminlien Mate District Youth Officer - NYK Thoubal graced the function as the Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
After the listing of the inaugural lamp by dignitaries, N. Mohendro Singh, Head of Zoology Dept, Kaching Khunou College spoke on the topic- Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) and International Year of Millets 2023. While N. Saratkumar Singh, Head of English Dept. Kakching Khunou College spoke on the topics-India’s G20 Presidency, and G20 summit in Manipur on 17-18 February 2023. He also spoke on Y20 Theme, such as
i) Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation & 21st Century skills,
ii) Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a way of life,
iii)Peacebuilding and Reconciliation: Ushering in an era of No War, iv)Shared Future: Youth in Democracy and Governance and
v)Health, Wellbeing &Sports: Agenda for Youths.
The function also had an interaction round with participants and speakers from the Dignitaries on various topics of the G20 & Y20 Summit and salient features of the Catch the Rain where it falls and when it falls campaign. The president of the program- Dr. P. Memcha Devi, Principal of Kakching Khunou College, led the youths in a Water Pledge and officially launched the Catch The Rain project.
The program ended with “Athithi Devo Bhava”- a cultural program showcasing the unique culture and rich heritage of the state. Similarly, District level NYPs will be held in Tengnoupal, Thoubal, and Chandel on the 17th, 18th, and 20th of February 2023 under NYK Chandel and NYK Thoubal.
Around 150 students participated in the Neighborhood Youth Parliament and Catch the Rain Project.
