KNO Spokesperson's House Set on Fire

Unknown miscreants set the house of KNO Spokesperson, Dr Seilen Haokip on July 3 in Churachandpur.

Seilen Haokip was one of the persons who supported the lifting of the economic blockade of NH 2 in Kangpokpi.

The situation in Manipur aggravated again on July 2 when Kuki militants attacked a Meitei bunker on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday in Bishnupur's Khoijumatabi.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh rushed to the violence-hit periphery areas of Bishnupur district following reports of clashes and arson erupting in Khoijumantabi village. Three Meitei Village Volunteer Forces were killed in the attack. The situation in the periphery areas of the Bishnupur district has remained tense since the outbreak of violence, which initially occurred at midnight on July 2.

The United People's Front (UPF) and the Kuki National Organisation (KNO), in a joint statement, said that they decided to lift the blockade of the national highway passing through Kangpokpi district to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities in Manipur.

The development comes, notwithstanding the anger and anguish of the Kuki-Zo community people, keeping in view Union Home Minister Amit Shah's concern to restore peace and harmony in the state and alleviate the plight of people in general.

The joint statement signed by UPF spokesperson Aaron Kipgen and KNO spokesperson Seilen Haokip said that the decision to lift the blockade was taken after wide-ranging consultations with various civil society organizations, village chiefs, youths, and women leaders on several occasions.
